For teachers

Your evenings are back. The marking's done.

evaleasy is an AI grading tool that lets a teacher upload a whole class's papers at once, as PDFs, photos or Word files, and get a marked report for each student. Every question shows the student's answer, the correct answer and the reason for the mark, and an answer it can't make out earns no marks, as it would from a teacher. Prefer to check those yourself? Turn flags on.

How much is marking really costing you?

Every paper a teacher marks by hand is paid for in salary or in evenings. Drag the sliders and watch what comes back.

An estimate from your figures, not a promise. “With evaleasy” counts $1,260 of credits for 36,000 pages, plus 100 hours of teachers checking reports.

Step by step

  1. Get the papers in. Keep one file per student, then choose Many papers (bulk). If you scanned the class into one PDF, split it with a PDF tool first.
  2. Add your key. Upload the question paper and the answer key separately, or type the key in plain words. Choose the question type, and Lenient, Standard or Strict. All of it is optional.
  3. Stay until the papers are sent. The page counts them. After that, marking runs in the background and you can close the laptop.

What does the Sunday-night marking pile look like with evaleasy?

It becomes a list of marked papers to check, instead of a stack to start from page one. Say you have 32 physics tests of 4 pages each. You upload them with your key, and they're marked in the background, so you can close the page once they've been sent.

When you come back, the class has its own page, and each paper opens its own report. What's left is yours: any essays you want to read yourself, a sample of the rest, and the flagged questions if you turned flags on. How long that takes depends on how much you choose to check, so we won't put a number on it.

What does the class's page show?

Each bulk evaluation has one page, with the class's results and every student's paper:

  • Class stats: the average, highest and lowest scores, how many papers need review, and how many failed. Failed papers are refunded.
  • A plagiarism check. It compares these papers with each other and flags possible copying for you to check, including papers sharing the same unusual wrong answers. It costs no credits, doesn't search the web, doesn't detect AI writing and doesn't change marks.
  • A CSV of marks, and a list of papers that each open their own report.

How does a teacher stay in charge of an AI grading tool?

You stay in charge because evaleasy shows its working on every question, and you choose what happens to answers it isn't sure of:

  • Flags, if you want them. By default every answer gets a final mark, and one it can't make out earns no marks. Switch off Mark everything under Marking options, and a paper with a doubt gets a Needs review badge and a box headed "A teacher should check this", with a reason such as "Question 7: readings of the answer disagreed (also read as C)".
  • What we read. This shows, page by page, what evaleasy took from the paper. If a mark looks wrong, start here: it tells you whether the handwriting was misread or the answer misjudged.
  • Any question's reason. Open a question to see the student's answer, the key's answer, the reason for the mark, and how the answer looked on the page, such as "crossed out A and ticked C".

What feedback do students get?

Each paper gets a short summary, strengths and things to improve, and none of it reaches a student unless you pass it on: evaleasy has no student logins and doesn't email students. Read it first, because you know things about this child that the paper doesn't show.

To hand a report back, use Print, one paper at a time. Every question prints in full, with the student's answer, the correct answer, the mark and the reason, so keep that in mind before handing a report back while a test is still in use. Flags print too. "What we read", your files and your marking guide stay off the page.

What's in the class CSV?

The class CSV has one row per paper and one column per question. The columns are Student, Status, Score (out of 100), Marks, Out of, Needs review, then Q1, Q2 and so on. Read down a question's column to see where the class went wrong: if nearly everyone lost marks on Q6, either the topic needs another lesson or your key needs a second look.

What's worth doing before you mark a real class?

Run a set you've already marked and compare question by question, including your messiest handwriting. evaleasy doesn't publish an accuracy figure, so your own papers are the best evidence you'll get.

Then send one paper before the rest of each new test, and check the correct answers it shows. A batch's key can't be changed once it has started, so fixing a mistake means a new batch and paying for those pages again.

Common questions

Do I need an answer key?
No. Without one, evaleasy works out the answers and says so on every question it affects. For marks you can rely on, add your own key.
Can I change a mark I disagree with?
Not at the moment: reports can't be edited. Redo reads and marks a paper again from scratch, for what it cost the first time, but you can't type in your own mark. Keep your decision in your own mark book, and correct a printed report by hand before it goes back.
Can it read my students' handwriting?
Try it on your own class. Each paper is read twice, and a third time if the readings differ on a marked option or a blank. With no majority, a multiple choice or one-blank answer earns no marks, or is flagged for you if you turn flags on.
What does one class cost?
One credit per page. Those 32 four-page tests are 128 credits, worth about $5.12 at the Standard pack's $0.04 a page, though packs are bought whole. Your key isn't charged.
Who can see my students' papers?
Files are private to your account. To be read and marked, papers are sent to AI model providers through OpenRouter, so check your school's rules on student data first. Files stay until you delete them.

Your next stack of papers doesn't have to be your problem.
